Why Buy Bio-Based Pet Waste Bags? Bailey weighs in.
There’s a lot of conversation about bags, these days. And since I’m just a dog, you wouldn’t think I’d have an opinion, but I do. I love the outdoors. Running, playing, sniffing. You know, dog stuff. But I also like the places where I run and play to be clean and free of well….dog litter.
Some people come to the park with their dog and use grocery bags to pick up the litter. And being prepared is a good thing. But grocery bags are not the best thing to use. Why? Well they are recyclable but they aren’t degradable. So they’ll stay in a land fill for a long time. And then there’s the issue of cleanliness. What if that grocery bag had raw chicken or beef in it? I know that dog litter has germs in it, but those bags could have some dangerous germs in them too!
But what about those bags made with additives to make them “biodegradable”? You can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig!! You can put these “additives” into the material put you’re still using 100% petroleum to make the bag. Why do that? Why use more petroleum? Doesn’t that have to be bought from foreign countries at high cost? I’m just a dog, but I’m thinking that’s not a great idea.
That brings us to Bio-based pet waste bags. It only makes sense to me, again just a dog, but if you make a bag using 38% natural product and less petroleum, well that has to be better for the environment. Right? Even the USDA says, “There is an expectation that the increased use of biobased products will help reduce petroleum consumption by increasing the use of renewable resources, thus reducing the amount of new carbon released into the atmosphere, helping to better manage the carbon cycle, in turn reducing resultant adverse environmental and health impacts”. Go visit their website, www.biopreferred.gov.
So think green and go bio-based. Buy your bags from a company that not only has bio-based bags made from 38% bio-based material but the USDA has certified the material as bio-based. I know my 4 legged friends will thank you for keeping our play areas clean and green.
